Extrusion by Ángel Arranz in Beijing - Marqués de Riscal

Photo: Beatriz del Saz

Next 23th October 2012 the piece Extrusion by the composer Ángel Arranz will be presented at the Musicacoustica Festival in Beijing, China. The composition drew its inspiration from Bodegas Marqués de Riscal´s avant-garde building, designed by the architect Frank Gehry and situated in Elciego, a small town in Álava (Spain)

Extrusion is the second piece of a series entitled [d]espacio, four electronic pieces for tape composed by Arranz between 2009 and 2012, with visuals by Beatriz del Saz. This series takes as compositional models four avant-garde Spanish wineries. In the recital there will be presented works by the Spanish composers Climent, Lewin-Richter, Jiménez and Perales.

The piece describes the action of extruding, which is molding by industrial means. As its architectural model, Extrusion presents a series of sound materials that express themselves by using curves. These curves develop through time and space, playing with the listener’s sound perception of the space itself.

Ángel Arranz [Peñafiel, 1976] is a composer, sonologist and musicologist living in The Netherlands, associated researcher at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague. Since 2009 he is the artistic director of the independent multi[inter]disciplinary company The DK<projection>, whose creative stimulus is the use of technology as a vehicle of musical and artistic transformation. Their last multidisciplinary projects, performed in The Netherlands, Spain and South-Korea, deals with the relationship between music and architecture, recovering a tradition starting in the 16th century in Florence, and which has not been continued until the second half of the last century.
