I Jornadas Espaciales de la Universidad de Granada: rehearsals start

José López-Montes and I collaborate again in a new project that involves live electronic music, big data and space. This time, we will entirely produce a live electronic music concert for the first Jornadas Espaciales de la Universidad de Granada, within the Programa de Estudios Espaciales (SSP21) presented by The International University of Space (ISU) at the Andalusian city.

José asked me, among other exciting things, to organize a sound painting session with part of the (gorgeous) Coro de la Universidad de Granada. This session aims to collect a series of semi-improvised sound materials, which serves to Pepe as the basis of certain electronic parts within his new piece for string trio, bass drums, timpani, acousmatic choir and live electronics, entitled Colling’s Journey. The whole concert will be devoted to this astronaut, Michael Collins, using the topic ingravity as the main musical concept to be developed through the performance. I let you here some program notes of the concert.

Working with the Coro de la UGR has been completely magic. The connection between singers and conductor has resulted in instantaneous and amazingly natural, as a gem you have found by chance in the middle of the road. I’ll show you a little of this session. It was recorded after just ten minutes of warming-up. Pepe’s piece and the whole concert promise to be a complete success!
